K-pop Girl Groups have continue to grow its popularity and gaining a lot of fans around the world.

There are plenty of k-pop girl groups but the following are my favorites.

10. MOMOLAND

Momoland is a South Korean Girl Group formed by MLD Entertainment through the 2016 reality show Finding Momoland. The show winners became the seven members: Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy. They debuted on November 10, 2016 with the album Welcome to Momoland.


9. FROMIS 9

Fromis 9 is a South Korean Girl Group formed by CJ E&M through the 2017 reality show Idol School. The group is composed of nine members: Roh Ji-sun, Song Ha-young, Lee Sae-rom, Lee Chae-young, Lee Na-gyung, Park Ji-won, Lee Seo-yeon, Baek Ji-heon, and Jang Gyu-ri. The group debuted on January 24, 2018 under Stone Music Entertainment with the release of the first extended play To Heart.


8. (G)I-DLE

(G)I-idle is a South Korean multinational girl group formed by Cube Entertainment in 2018. The group consists of six members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soojin, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua. The group debuted on May 2, 2018 with their first extended play titled I Am.


7. EVERGLOW

Everglow is a South Korea girl group under Yuehua Entertainment. The group is composed of six members: E:U, Sihyeon, Mia, Onda, Aisha, and Yiren. Everglow debuted on March 18, 2019 with the single album Arrival of Everglow.


6. IZ*ONE

Iz*One is a South Korean-Japanese giro group formed through Mnet reality competition show Produce 48. The group is managed by Off the Road Entertainment composed of tweleve members: Jang Won-young, Sakura Miyawaki, Jo Yu-ri, Choi Ye-na, An Yu-jin, Nako Yabuki, Kwon Eun-bi, Kang Hye-won, Hitomi Honda, Kim Chae-won, Kim Min-ju, and Lee Chae-yeon. The group debuted on October 29, 2018 with their first extended play Color*Iz. Upon its release, the group received immediate commercial success and peaking number 2 on South Korean Gain Album Chart. Both their extended play and lead single “La Vie en Rose” charted on Billboard World Albums and World Digital Songs.


5. ITZY

Itzy is a South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment composed of members: Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna. The group debuted on February 12, 2019 with the release of their single album It’z Different.


4. GFRIEND

GFriend is a South Korean girl group formed by Source Music in 2015. The group consist of six members: Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji. They made their debut with the extended play Season of Glass on January 15, 2015. GFriend won several 2015 female rookie awards and has garnered momentum since their debut despite being from a small company.


3. TWICE

Twice is a South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2015 reality show Sixteen. The group is composed of nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. The group debuted on October 20, 2015 with the extended play The Story Begins. Twice rose to fame in 2016 with their single “Cheer Up” that charted no.1 on Gaon Digital Chart and became the best performing single of the year.


2. REDVELVET

Redvelvet is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group debuted on August 1, 2014 with the digital single “Happiness” and four group members: Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy. In March 2015, Yeri was added into the group. Since their debut Redvelvet has continued to top in every South Korean Charts. Regarded as one of the most popular K-pop groups worldwide by Time and Billboard.


1. BLACKPINK

Blackpink is a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment consists of four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa. The group debuted with their single album Square One, which spawned “Whistle” their first no.1 song in South Korea, as well as “Boombayah” their first no.1 hit on the Billboard World Digital Songs.

K-pop Boy Groups has been growing popularity since the year 1990’s until 2000’s. With their charismatic appeal, awesome dance moves, and music they have captured the hearts of many. They continue to dominate the world bringing a new age of music.Now here are the Top 10 K-pop Boy groups you must stan.


10. ASTRO

Astro is a South Korean boy band formed by Fantagio that debuted in 2016. The group is composed of six members: MJ, Cha Eun-woo, Moonbin, Jinjin, Rocky and Yoon Sanha. They debuted with the single “Hide and Seek” from their debut album Spring Up, and were subsequently named by Billboard as the one of the new k-pop groups of the year 2016.


9. WINNER

Winner is a South Korean boy band formed in 2013 by YG Entertainment through reality show survival program WIN: Who is Next. The group currently consist of four members: Jinwoo, Seungwoon, Mino, and Seungyoon. The group debuted on August 17, 2014 with the released of studio album 2014 S/S, ahead of their official debut, claiming the number one spot on Gaon Album Chart and Billboard World Albums Chart upon release.


8. STRAY KIDS

Stray Kids or SKZ is a South Korean boy band formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2017 reality show. The group is consist of eight members: Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin and I.N. They debuted on March 25 with I Am Not.


7. MONSTA X

Monsta X is a South Korean boy band formed through the reality survival program No Mercy by Starship Entertainment. The group is composed of six members: Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Wonho (former member), Joohoney, and I.M. They debuted with their first album Trespass.


6.GOT7

Got7 is a South Korean boy band formed by JYP Entertainment. The group is composed of seven members: JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, Bambam, and Yugyeom. They debuted in January 2014 with the release of their first album “Got it?” which peaked at number one on Billboard’s World Album Chart. The group gained attention for live stages performances, which often includes elements of martial arts tricking and street standing.


5. SUPERM

SuperM is a South Korean boy band formed in 2019 by SM Entertainment and Capitol Music Group. The group includes seven members from SM boy groups: Taemin from Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai from EXO, Taeyong and Mark from NCT 127, Ten and Lucas from WayV. The group debuted October 4, 2019.


4. NCT

NCT or Neo Culture Technology is a South Korean boy band formed by SM Entertainment. The group’s concept is having an unlimited number of Members divided into multiple sub units based in various cities worldwide. The group consist of 21 members that age from their late teens to mid twenties. The first unit NCT U debuted April 9, 2016 the digital singles “The 7th Sense” & “Without You”. The second unit NCT 127 debuted on July 7, 2016 with the album ” NCT #127″. The third unit NCT Dream debuted on August 24, 2016 with the digital single “Chewing Gum”. And the fourth unit WayV based in China, debuted January 17, 2019 with the single album “The Vision”.


3. SEVENTEEN

Seventeen is a South Korean boy band formed by Pledis Entertainment in 2016. The group consists of 13 members divided into three sub-units, each with a different area of specialization. The “Hip-Hop Unit” consists of 4 members: Scoups, Vernon, Wonwoo, Mingyu. The “Performance Unit” consists of 4 members: Hoshi, Dino, The8, Jun. The “Vocal Unit” consist of 5 members: Woozi, DK, Seungkwan, Josh, and Jeonghan. The group has been considered a “self-producing” idol group with the members being actively involved in the songwriting, choreography, and other aspects of the group.


2. BTS

BTS or Bangtan Boys formed by Big Hit Entertainment that debuted in 2013. The group is composed of 7 members: Jin, Suga, J-hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They debuted with their single album “2 Cool 4 Skool”. The band is the first Korean act to top the Billboard 200 with their studio album Love Yourself: Tear year 2018. And continued to hit the top of the U.S Charts with their albums.


1. EXO

EXO is a South Korean-Chinese boy band based in Seoul formed by SM Entertainment that debuted in 2012. The group is composed of a member: Suho, Xiumin, D.O, Chen, Lay, Chanyeol, Baekhyun, Kai, and Sehun. The band ranked as one of the top five most influential celebrities on the Torbes Korea Power Celebrity list and have been named “The Biggest Boy Band in the World” and the “The Kings of K-pop” by media outline.

The Korean Wave

The Korean Wave is the increase in global popularity of South Korean culture since the 1990s. First driven by the spread of K-dramas and K-pop across East, South, and Southeast Asia during its initial stages. The Korean Wave evolved from a regional development into a global phenomenon, carried by the internet and social media and the proliferation of K-pop music videos on youtube.

The success of the Korean Wave is, in part, due to the development of social networking services and online video sharing platforms; which have allowed the Korean Entertainment Industry to reach a sizable overseas audience. Through the use of social media in facilitating promotion, distribution, and consumption of various forms of Korean Entertainment—specifically K-Pop—that has contributed to the surge in worldwide popularity since the mid-2000s.
